Anyone else having Justin Timberlake flashbacks? I'm sure Too Faced wasn't going for that, but Sexy Back got stuck in my head the minute I heard about this palette.
The palette includes 15 eyeshadows in a variation of sizes that are split up into three different looks (although I'm sure many of you will break the rules and mix all three together). It also comes with a full size of their new waterproof pencil eyeliner "perfect eyes eyeliner" and a mini shadow insurance (which I gave to my friend so it is not pictured. I have a full size.)
The packaging is a sturdy plastic with a huge ass mirror and a clever way to hide the idea cards behind the mirror. It sits up open on its own which is super handy, and it's not too bulky to not fit in most palette racks.
Onward to the review and swatches!
So as I stated above, the palette is broken up into three different squares intended to make application easier. There's a fuck ton of variety here, so it's rather helpful (though Too Faced always seems to do that in their palettes).
The individual wells are EXTREMELY reminiscent of the Lancome palettes, and the texture of these eyeshadows is very similar to the Lancome ones. The eyeshadows in this palette are by far the nicest feeling Too Faced shadows (though I might argue the ones in my Sweet Dreams palette were also as nice, just different).
Too Faced seems to reach better quality in their shadows when they do collections like this for fall or for the holidays. (Honestly this is the extreme opposite of MAC who put out worse quality when they do holiday or seasonal collections).
The shades were all extremely pigmented (even the light highlighter shades), and I only had texture issues with the shades that were on the very left vertical rectangular well in each of the three collections. Those shades were on the sparkly side, so they were sheerer, but miles better than say Too Faced's "peach fuzz" that is often included in palettes.
(note the picture below)
The first "collection" is a warm neutral brown collection called "The Ingenue" (oooh la la so french)
The second "collection" is a cool smokey purple set called "The Icon"
The third collection is your typical smokey eye set called "The Bombshell"
Look at that fucking black at the bottom. I think the smokey eye section is my favourite in the palette.
Finally, they've included a full size of their new eyeliner called "Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner" in Perfect Black. I've never tried any of their eyeliners, and I was so impressed by this one. Honestly, it might be my favourite part of this palette.
It's a super creamy smooth liner with a deep dark glossy black finish. It smudges easily, but it does set pretty quickly.
And once this baby sets it's not going ANYWHERE. I tested the waterproof-ness using a makeup wipe and it took an entire minute to get MOST of it off, but there was still a faint black stain on my hand. This shit is powerful and it lasts HOURS on the waterline.
Overall, I think this is one of the highest quality palettes Too Faced has ever produced. Other than the subtle sheerness of the three shades (that are meant to be sheer, mind you), this palette is fucking quality. The eyeliner and the mini shadow insurance are also great bonuses.
The palette is a sephora exclusive, and retails for $48. I definitely think it's worth the price as it is 15 huge eyeshadows in a range of looks and a full size and decent "mini" product.
Thank you SOOO much for doing this. I just got it today and you're the first person i go to for reviews and swatches! -Morgan C.
ReplyDeleteGreat Review! I wasn't sure about this palette when I saw it on the Sephora website, but now i'm half tempted to purchase it!

Oh gosh. I just got my first paycheck and I think you've convinced me to spend part of that shit on this. Thanks for the review, I never really know what to think of the Too Faced products and this was very helpful.
ReplyDeleteguess i know what i'll be spending my paycheck on. if these are anything like my lancome taupe craze palette... dear lord. i may go broke.
ReplyDeleteWOW! The quality of these pics are amazing and therefore sooo helpful!! Thank you very much for taking the time to do this post!
ReplyDeleteThis is so helpful Rachel! Just ordered the palette today thanks to you!
ReplyDeleteI just thought I'd offer my opinion on that damn ass perfect eyes waterproof eyeliner. I was super excited to pick the eyeliner up from sephora once I saw your review on youtube and your website. This eyeliner is great and all and I'm super impressed with the pigmentation.
ReplyDeleteBUT! After an hour of wear, I found it to be atrocious. While I love the formula and how well it applies and sets, it was FLAKY AS FUCK. That shit got all in my eye and I was literally crying because of how much was getting in my eye. I bought two more in different colors to see if the others did the same and sure enough they did.
I just thought I'd warn everybody because it irritated the hell out of my eyes and I can barely wear it despite how much I want to just because of how pigmented and smooth it glides on. It ends up flaking off, however. So. Yeah. Be careful with that shit.
The black on the bottom looks amazing! I really want to try this palette :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review and swatches! :)
