So today I'm sharing with you my guacamole recipe. I used to HATE guacamole when I was younger, but now it's one of my favourite spreads/dips ever. It basically combines all my favourite things into one chunky ass dish.
Now before people start getting all technical on my ass, can we please note that I am in no way saying this is the AUTHENTIC way to make guacamole.
I was raised Jewish and the only thing we spread on shit was white fish salad, so just keep that in mind when you read this.
~ONWARD~
So for this recipe you will need:
- two avocados
- a jalapeño pepper
- a quarter of a red pepper (you can use tomatoes, I just prefer red peppers)
- half cup of red onion
- two limes (juiced)
- pepper and a decent amount of salt (I love salty guacamole)
- and about a half cup of cilantro (my favourite thing ever)
First you want to scoop out your avocados and place them in a bowl. Don't make the same mistake I did by using a pretty small bowl. It'll only make your life harder when you're trying to mash all this stuff together.
Next you want to chop up the jalapeño. I don't put any of the seeds in here, but if you prefer your guacamole a little bit spicy, you can always leave those in.
Then add your red pepper (or tomato) and onions to the mix.
Now I picked up this trick from Iron Chef America (which honestly why the fuck am I not on there yet?). To squeeze a lime without getting a hernia or having to buy something fancy, just take a pair of tongs and use those. It works really well!
Then add your salt and pepper! You can honestly use however much you like.
Now mash this shit all together. I recently invested in a cheap little potato masher and found that it works really nicely for guacamole. If you don't have that kind of class, you can always use a fork.
Lastly I chop up a decent amount of cilantro and then fold that gently into the guacamole with a spoon.
And there you have it!
Let me know if you try this out!
omg, can't wait to make this.
ReplyDeleteUgh, It looks so good!! :) I want to make some now.
ReplyDeleteI made some this weekend. Living in Texas, it's basically a staple food. I mix some salsa in mine to give it a little spice. I add some cilantro, pepper, a little fajita seasoning, and some lime. I made a bowl last night to snack on and also used it in some tacos for dinner. (:
ReplyDeleteI love guacamole! If you can find it in your grocery, grab some Badia complete seasoning (or, sazon completa, with a flair). It adds the perfect taste to guac for me!
