REVIEW: Buxom "The Sculpted Lash" Mascara

So in this month's Popsugar Must Haves box came this little gem. The extremely funky looking mascara from Buxom is called The Sculpted Lash, and I was really curious to see how this weird ass wand would deliver.

I know a lot of you guys who watched my unboxing video were curious too, so here is how this mascara performs!

The wand is this super strange S-shape that can be used to sculpt the lashes by the way you turn it.

I find the best way to apply this mascara using this wand is to have it so the inner lashes are being "scooped" upward with the front of the wand and then flipping it so I can "scoop" the rest of my lashes as well. Once I finish apply it this way, I flip the wand around so it's just the round part coating my lashes for added volume.

The mascara itself is a kind of midway formula between wet and dry. It's not super tacky that it takes forever to dry, but it's not so crusty that it barely works either. It's a really nice in between formula.

This mascara is really amazing for length and curl. I found that it curled my lashes better than when I use any other mascara without a curler first. It really did a great job at lengthening these babies as well.

My only real critique is that it's not the most volumizing. This can easily be fixed by layering a more volumizing formula (I like using this with my Maybelline Rocket Volum'), but if you're the kind of person who wants it all from a mascara, this doesn't deliver volume.

It lasts all day on me and didn't flake, though honestly I have never experienced mascara flaking or wearing off on me.

So there you have it!

  1. I was actually surprised that this worked out! I wouldn't have considered the wand to apply nicely. I might just need to try this out! Thanks!

  2. You should try the original Buxom Lash, it separates as well as volumizes. Overall a great mascara.

  3. I swear by your honest reviews - thank you :).
Also, how are you loving your Rebel?! It's an amazing camera series. Continue playing around with the AV/Aperture settings on your camera to get your "subjects" fully in focus. I look forward to seeing what else you have in store for us!

  4. I completely cracked up at your reaction to this product in your unboxing video and now I really want to give it a try myself after reading your review on it.

  5. I imagined this mascara to be really clumpy as a result of the wand, but the photos make it look really great! will have to try it out :)
