So today I'm reviewing this new Maybelline mascara. Now listen, before you get ready to grab some popcorn and read me bitch about another Maybelline mascara, listen to this; I ACTUALLY LIKE IT.
I know right? Biggest plot twist of the year.
My lovely friend Lindsey of Beautybaby44 gave me this mascara along with a few other makeup goodies for my 21st birthday. I'm not gonna lie to you, when I saw this mascara, I side eyed it a bit knowing it was inevitably going to end up in next months "shits".
To my surprise, this mascara actually works quite well on my lashes!
So if you weren't aware, Maybelline mascaras and I don't really get on too well. I've tried a bunch, and have always just given them away to people or letting them get all crusty in my makeup drawer. One might even say I despise Maybelline mascaras.
Somehow, Maybelline seems to have done something right with the ever so sexual sounding "The Rocket" Volum' (by the way, is it just me or is "volum'" really fucking stupid?) Express mascara.
The fact that mascara is named "The Rocket" and slightly resembles something you hide in your panty drawer makes me laugh.
The formula is a thick, wet consistency that works well for me (I'm a wet mascara lover). It successfully builds volume and a little bit of length all the while coating your lashes in a really deep black colour.
The wand is one of those plastic type (my favourite) that has plastic bristles but the end is actually flat? It's kind of weird and it doesn't make for coating the inner corner lashes very easy, but I made do.
The wand is not too gigantic (think of the dreaded Megaplush), and sort of reminds me of one of my favourite mascaras; L'oreal Voluminous Million Lashes (jesus christ that's a mouthful).
The bristles themselves are really great at separating the lashes, so you get thick dark lashes that aren't clumpy and awful.
AFTER 1 COAT
Lindsey didn't get me waterproof, but you'd honestly think this mascara is. It doesn't smear or flake or crumble, so it stays on and holds curl like a waterproof mascara.
Now when removing this with my always great Neutrogena makeup wipes, I ran into a bit of an issue. While this mascara seems like it is off, it's actually not. I like to take off my eye makeup before I take a shower so I don't end up with panda eyes when I get out.
As usual, I wiped off this product, hopped in the shower, but I was left with giant smears of black under my eyes when I got out. For this mascara, I recommend being extra anal about wiping it off if you want to make sure that doesn't happen. Maybe an oil based eye makeup remover would work best.
So overall, the mascara looks nice on my lashes and stays on (maybe a little too well).
What's your take? Hate it? Love it? Mad at me for dissing all Maybelline mascaras?
